Green Bay Water Utility requests 9.4 water rate increase- WBAY (posted August 16, 2018)
GREEN BAY, Wis. (WBAY) -- Green Bay residents could see an increase on their water bills in the coming months.
The Public Service Commission of Wisconsin is considering the Green Bay Water Utility's request to increase the water rate by 9.4 percent.
Spokespeople for the Water Utility say the increase is necessary to address aging infrastructure.
They say customers have not seen a rate increase since 2015.
If approved, a 9.4 percent water rate increase would cost an additional $1.44 per household (average family of four) per month.
The increase is also contributed to structural improvements to plants and growth operations over the last three years, which has increased expenses by more than 8 percent.
The city is also working to replace the aging water infrastructure that dates back to the 1880s.
That means replacing about four miles of water main each year at a cost of $5.5 million.
