Water Lateral Insurance

Green Bay Water customers periodically receive letters from HomeServe USA offering insurance for the water service line on their property. These letters are not from Green Bay Water.

Is Green Bay Water connected to HomeServe?
No. Green Bay Water has no partnership or agreement with HomeServe. We do not endorse their products, we do not receive payment from them and we do not share customer information with them or any other company.

Do I have to respond?
No. HomeServe sells optional private insurance. The deadline printed on the letter is HomeServe's, not ours. Your water service is not affected whether you buy it or not.

Who owns the water line on my property?
The property owner owns the service line from the curb stop (the shutoff valve near the property line) into the home. Green Bay Water owns and maintains the water main and the line from the main to the curb stop. Repairs on the owner's side are the owner's responsibility.

How often do these lines break?
Rarely. Green Bay Water sees only a small number of customer-side service line failures each year across more than 36,000 customers.

Should I buy the coverage?
That is your decision. Before you do, check whether your homeowner's insurance already covers service line repair (many policies offer it as a low-cost add-on) and read exactly what the HomeServe plan covers and excludes.

The letter has the Green Bay Water logo on it or says you recommend HomeServe.
We want to see it. Bring the letter to Green Bay Water, 631 S. Adams St., Green Bay, WI 54301, or call 920-448-3480.
